Painting the stairs

So I have now started painting the stairs and upstairs corridor. My mum chose a medium-dark brown colour which I feel looks a lot like a cave. But not just a cave, one that was decorated in the 70's. That doesn't mean I don't like it though! It's a really nice colour! Just needs a lot of bright, ceiling halogens to improve it.

One small problem too, I can't seem to work out how to reach a certain part of the wall above the stairs without coming up with ideas that could possibly result in my imminent death. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! So far I have tried an extended brush handle, a ladder with a plank of wood sticking out of one of the rungs and a jet-pack...

  1. How about this;
    Use the ladder. Put a plank on a rung as high up as you can reach - with the longer end to the stairs. Now, place an open tin of paint on this end, climb the ladder carefully then stamp on the longer end.
    Hope this helps :-)
