United Statedom of New Sing Africaustranadaland

On a gaming community which I frequent I came across a little conversation about language localisations (Note the lack of "z" indicating British English) in a game. The question was about whether or not the English language was going to be localised for British English removing the annoying lack of the letter "u" from many words ("colour - color", "Vapor - Vapor") and the replacement of "s" with a "z" ("Localisation - Localization", "Realise - Realize"). The conversation deemed that this was not a necessary step for the developers to take as, even though people find it annoying, they still understand what is being said. The question then evolved into what the logo would be to choose this multi-national version of English as your language of choice. I proposed this: as the solution to that problem as it incorporated four of the main English speaking nations in the world:

This was met with a large number of people agreeing that it would be a fantastic logo for the purpose of English language selection. There were however, a few disgruntled New Zealanders and Irish who were unhappy about the outcome of this flag. So I quickly made this change to it:

This seemed to appease the masses for a while. That was, until the South Africans and English speaking Singaporeans came online... I countered their arguments with this final edit to the logo:

United Statedom of New Sing Africaustranadaland.

It was there that my logo creation stopped. Mainly because I couldn't be bothered with it any more, but more that I realised I actually had a dissertation to write. I tell you all of this because I am actually quite proud of what I have achieved. I think, the first one at least, is quite a nice flag. I would be proud if the four nations incorporated were to join together as one large nation for the sole purpose of using this flag as their own. I can dream though can't I.

Poacher's Choice.

For a blog titled "Om-nom-nomnivore" there are very few food related posts on here, so here goes, a wild foray into the world of critical food and drink analysis from a student with no past experience in the field.

Right now I am sitting, at my desk again as a result of copious amounts of work which I am required to slave my way through in order to pass my course. I would say I'm enjoying a nice bottle of ale, but I'm not sure whether I am or not. Lets say it possesses an "interesting" flavour. 

The bottle neck reads "Damson and Liquorice" and, due to my deep seated hate for anything liquorice flavoured I was highly sceptical of trying this beer. The poor thing sat in the fridge until my only other evening drinking options were milk or water... I am however, slightly surprised! I can not taste a single drop of liquorice on the tongue or smell it anywhere in my nasal scent receptors! Instead I pick up more of a liquid fig roll flavour mixed in with a dark, full bodied ruby ale. It's quite nice! But a little sweet for my liking so it's taking me a while to soldier through. The flavour was surprising enough to spur on my little review of the ale, which is more than I can say for the other ales that I have drank throughout my life. Perhaps that has something to do with the fact that whenever I take a sip of a fantastic little brew my taste-buds make a little jump in my mouth and I'm too preoccupied with the drinking to spend time typing about it on the internet in a blog that next to nobody reads.

Overall I would recommend the beer to anyone who hasn't quite found their taste in ales and wants a nice easy to drink, sweet tipple to start them off in the world which awaits. A highly interesting flavour where the first sip makes you go "Wow, that's different." 8/10, would drink again. (Though probably more likely on a hot summers day as opposed to a cold wet evening).

In other news, I now own Lycra cycle shorts... As my dad said, "It's all downhill from here."

Coffee and Carbon

So it's been a long while since I posted anything on here. Quite a lot has happened since my previous post. Maybe one day I shall fill in the gaps between my trip to Hamleys to see Lego Buzz and the current day. My memory is poor but hopefully the photos that I have taken will fill it in for me. Currently though, as the title suggests, I am sitting enjoying a (Hello Kitty) mug of coffee and reading amorphous carbon research notes, while outside the window it is a beautiful, bike worthy, sunny day.

So, perhaps this post will be the first  in the resurrection of that forgotten place where my everyday life is documented.
Not that it is Particularly exciting to anyone besides myself. I just forget my life achievements too easily.
