Desk additions!

Today I started building the desk shelf, it's going to run along the whole length of the desk in the end but I didn't have enough 2x1 to finish the longer side. I also cut a couple of holes into the surface to allow for cables etc. As exciting as this must be for you all!

Solo Photo Work

More photo developing happened within the Gilbert household tonight, the pictures didn't turn out as well as I had hoped they would, but there are a couple of OK shots from the film. These were taken on one of my, lonely-I-have-nothing-to-do walks this summer. Check out my Flickr page for more!

Building the desk

Yesterday and today I spent some of my day cutting up couple of sheets of MDF to place on top of the desk support that I produced last week. Planning to start making a shelf running along the desk to give me even more storage space.

I also put a bar into the wardrobe for the clothing and cut another piece of MDF to make another shelf on top of the wardrobe.

Everything the light touches, is our kingdom...

OK, so this post has absolutely nothing to do with the lion king. I lied and got all of your hopes up and I feel bad. I'm apologise profusely. But Mufasa was a dude. I feel his words of wisdom should permeate the thoughts of every single person on this beautifully diverse planet.

So nothing interesting really happened in my life today, other than anime and research into an automatic chicken coop door which led to me finding an example of a fully automated chicken coop in the MAKE magazine volume 22 made by Alan Graham (No idea who he is but I felt I should name drop to hand over all the rightfully deserved credit, because I, to be honest with you, have done nothing other than re-iterate what he has said). OK, so for a basic run through of the design: As a chicken leaves the coop he recieves an email from the a motion sensor system from his iPhone telling him how many have left and how many go back in etc. Then at night time i.e. after dark, when the chickens go back in, it counts how many have gone back in and shuts the door when they are all safe, turns on a heating pad if the temperature is below a certain level to keep them all feeling roasty toasty during their rightfully earned kip. If over night it gets too cold out in the yard, a heating pad around the water bowl or whatever it is chickens have, switches on to make sure their water doesn't freeze over for when they get thirsty. He has also programmed himself an iPhone app with a built in web-cam in the coop so that he can watch them do stuff if he wants and open and close the door and other exciting remote controlled things from wherever he happens to be at the time. Really interesting stuff but rather expensive (all the parts he gave a price for in the article adds up to $554) so not really all that practical for most people.

So that was basically my day, not much happened so I shall leave you with this picture and a little snippet of wisdom: "In extreme circumstances, the assailants can be stopped by removing the head or destroying the brain."

LOL (lots of love), Alex

More building!

So today I managed to get some weird block things which are used for screwing stuff together in the corners enabling me to fix the desk frame together and to also put in some shelf supports inside the cupboard! Rather proud of my measuring and building skills though! I managed to get a perfect flat on the desk so in happy!

My desk

So yesterday I got back into the swing of things and started to build my desk support! This is just one part of it, planning to make a large corner desk, as you can probably tell from the pictures! Nothing too exciting in this update.

And I managed to set a piece of wood on fire with the power saw...

My day on the halfway to 30th of July

So my day starts off, as most peoples does, waking up within your bed. My phone telling me that I have one email from my girlfriend who is showing me a picture of a Japanese TV show in which one woman (pictured) who is dressed up as Asuka Langley from the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion is holding a pigs nose. This is from a gameshow in which contestants have to roll dice to determine who is and isn't going to eat said pigs nose. The gameshow apparently also challenged these contestants to consume an almost fully formed baby bird inside an egg. Now I don't know if this is normal or not, but I do know that it is certainly a very interesting way to begin your day!
So I decide to get up out of my bed and explore the house for some food and end up with a plate of wonderful pancakes with honey etc. draped all over the top. Only three words can describe this and they are: OM NOM NOM.
Once fed, I head up to my room to continue work, today I am building a small frame to go on the other side of the wardrobe to support a shelf and also to affix a pole to to hang my clothes upon. Only problem with this seems to be that the wall plugs I used munched up my plasterboard fairly badly and when screwing into them, nothing seems to hold for more than 10 seconds so there is a little obstacle which needs overcoming.

After I have given up on the stand it is approximately dinner time (after a couple of hours of well spent time-wasting on the internet) and we are having a beautiful pasta with tomato sauce, salad and a gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon from the Yellowtail wineries (anyone is interested the full tasting notes can be found here). Highlight of the meal being the massive mound of garlic bread! Once again, OM NOM NOM.

After the meal the family heads off to prepare for the evening out at the Hebridean Celtic Festival in which I spend my time jumping around the living room with my guitar singing and playing along with this song...

(Those of you reading this on facebook won't be able to see the video I have ever so cleverly embedded into this post so if you are curious then you should just click on the link at the bottom of the note to jump to my blog. What a clever ploy to get more views!)

At the festival now, You know it's got to be good when you stand in the toilet and the rain is falling down and landing on your head! For those of you (females) who don't know what I'm talking about I have courteously attached a photograph of said toilets so you can look down upon us and laugh at our inferior sense of sanitation.

First band to play is Adrian Edmundson and the Bad Shepherds which were a fantastic little chilled out band playing cover songs from the likes of The Stranglers, The Clash and The Ramones to name a few.
Next band up is the Blazin Fiddles, not The Blazing Saddles as I heard many people slipping up with throughout the night. A furious mix of Guitar, Piano and Fiddles producing some wondrous little tunes.
Highlight of my night however was the Afro Celt Sound System which is a band consisting of members from a broad range of ethnic backgrounds collecting musical influences from dance inspired trip-hop and techno rhythms to traditional Irish flutes and vocals to West African and Bhangra drumming and dancing (which produced some of the most entertaining drum solos that I think I have ever seen) Pictures below.
(Apologies to Charlie Bilsland to whom I promised to blog with a beautiful rendition of the famous "Blue Steel" From Zoolander but my phone didn't manage to save the picture :'(    )

Oh, and always watch out for those little crafty plastic beer cups which claim they aren't actually plastic. I got my eye on you...

Very tasty beer though, Hebridean Brewing Company's "Festive ale" Which is a mix of at least two of the ales from their range as far as I can tell. Ale. OM NOM NOM

The Wardrobe Threshold

And the cupboard...

Been a while since my last blog post, mainly because not a lot has happened. Kept myself occupied with anime mostly and eating to try and regain the weight i am mysteriously losing, but I have started, and almost finished laying the laminate flooring in my wardrobe! Doors still haven't arrived though :-(

Carpet

The carpet is in now! The photos aren't that fantastic though.
http://om-nom-nomnivore.blogspot.com

Games!

While waiting for the carpet I dug out an old game from my childhood, one of my favourite games ever and I have still never managed to get more than half way through it,.

http://om-nom-nomnivore.blogspot.com

Carpet time! Hopefully.

I now have an empty room in preparation for the carpet guys coming to give me a present! The doors sadly didn't turn up when I expected them to, but the weather has been bad and everything does arrive here by sea so I guess I can let them off ♪(´ε` )
